Golden Eagles place third in eight-team Lions Duals

Big Walnut scored decisions over Watkins Memorial (46-27), Licking Valley (40-36) and Granville (36-34) en route to a third-place finish in the eight-team Lions Duals on Saturday at Gahanna Lincoln High School.
Senior Austin Carr, senior Alex Eisnnicher, senior RJ Martin, sophomore Evan Watkins, freshman Matt Halbakken and freshman Matt Russell scored falls for the Golden Eagles against the Warriors. Carr won in 3 minutes, 35 seconds in the 160-pound weight class; Eisnnicher in 5:03 at 182, Watkins in 2:48 at 195, Halbakken in 3:36 at 126 and Martin in 4:42 at 138. Russell scored an 11-1 major decision at 113 pounds.
In their match with the Panthers, Eisnnicher scored a fall in 42 seconds at 182 and Martin a 13-5 major decision at 145. Sophomore Jacob Hadden and Carr each scored 9-8 decisions in their respective 126 and 160 weight classes.
Sophomore Drew Cochran and Eisnnicher recorded the Golden Eagles’ lone wins on the mat against the Blue Aces. Cochran posted a fall in 1:36 while Eisnnicher followed suit with a 0:31-second victory at 195.
Big Walnut captured five matches in a 45-25 loss to the host Lions with sophomore Wes Landrum and Carr scoring major decisions. Landrum prevailed 15-3 at 120 and Carr 12-2 at 160. Eisnnicher was awarded a 17-2 technical fall at 182 while Watkins and Martin scored respective 5-3 and 8-4 decisions at 195 and 138 pounds.
The Golden Eagles were successful in only one weight class in their 67-3 loss to Hilliard Bradley as Eisnnicher notched his fifth win of the day with a 10-8 decision at 182 pounds.
