Genoa FD offering Citizen’s Fire Academy
The Genoa Township Fire Department recently announced the formation of a Citizen’s Fire Academy.
Genoa Fire Department Marshall Craig Skeel said the purpose of the Citizen’s Fire Academy (CFA) is to inform and educate, through practical participation, the responsibilities and operations of the Fire Department.
Fire Academy participants will discover how the Fire Department prepares for and responds to emergencies as well as learn how to survive in emergencies.
Skeel said the CFA is not intended to make citizens into firefighters, but it will be educational, fun, and, at times, challenging.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be encouraged to share their knowledge with neighbors and friends in the community of how the Genoa Township Fire Department operates.
Skeel said the academy would foster a better understanding of the department’s duties, responsibilities and capabilities in serving the community.
Genoa Township CFA participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age and pass a background check. Skeel said the class size is limited to 15 participants and filling quickly.
