MARION TOWNSHIP – A 50-year-old Elida man was killed in a two-vehicle crash late Thursday.

Mark A. Hamilton, 50, of Elida, died as a result of his injuries, the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Friday.

The crash, which happened on Piquad Road near state Route 66 at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, involved a pickup truck and a semi-tractor trailer.

Hamilton was driving a pickup eastbound on Piquad Road when he struck a semi-tractor trailer that was parked in the roadway in the wrong lane of travel, the patrol reported.

The semi was left unattended with its headlights on facing westbound in the eastbound lane, waiting to load livestock from a local farm, the patrol reported.

Hamilton was not wearing a seat belt and was trapped in his vehicle after the head-on crash, the patrol reported.

The Delphos Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene and used mechanical means to remove Hamilton. He was rushed to St. Rita’s Medical Center, but his injuries were too severe.

Benjamin L. Reinhart, 39, parked the trailer on the roadway. He was away from the semi at the time of the collision and was not injured, the patrol reported.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation, the patrol reported.
