Easter Egg Hunts abound in Big Walnut territory:
Children, start your engines
They last for only a few minutes, they’re over in a virtual heartbeat, but children line up at Easter Egg Hunts everywhere in anticipation of that several-minute thrill ride across lawns peppered with brightly colored Easter eggs filled with sweet treats.
And, if it’s the Saturday, April 12, Fraternal Order of Eagles Easter Egg Hunt on Sunbury Village Square, children stick around after the lawn has been swept clean of Easter eggs to see if they are lucky winners of a bicycle.
But to win a bike, participants must sign up immediately before the Easter Egg Hunt. Bicycle sign up is from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the hunt begins promptly at 12 noon.
Members of Sunbury Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8736 will hold their Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, at the Big Walnut High School Football Stadium.
Post Commander Jerry Jodrey said registration begins at 11 a.m., the Easter Egg Hunt begins at 1 p.m.
Children in three age groups between ages one and 11 will hunt for real hard-boiled Easter eggs colored red, white and blue.
“Prizes includes bicycles, trikes, hot wheels and wagons,” Jodrey said. “Our Post 8736 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a bake sale starting at 11. We always have a good turnout, and invite all members of the Big Walnut community to bring their children to hunt for Easter eggs and the chance to win some very nice prizes.”
Sunbury United Methodist Church (SUMC) is hosting its 10th annual Community Easter Celebration on Saturday, April 12. The event is free and open to the entire community.

Children one year old through fifth grade may register for the Easter Egg Hunt. Please enter the church through the upper main entrance to register for the Easter Egg Hunt by 10:55 a.m.
The Easter Egg Hunt begins at 11 a.m. Each age group will have its own area to hunt eggs. There will be plenty for everyone, and children will receive a free goody bag for prizes but are encouraged to bring an Easter basket to gather all their eggs in.
The Easter Egg Hunt will take place outside rain or shine, so dress for the weather.
Following the Easter Egg Hunt, everyone will be invited to return inside for more games and to have children’s photos taken with the Easter Bunny. All activities will end at 12 noon. For more information visit the SUMC Web site at < sunburyumc.org > or contact the church office at 965-3813.
