Steve Kesler inducted into District 11 Hall of Fame

Steve Kesler, a 1973 graduate of Big Walnut High School, was inducted into the District 11 Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame


Saturday at Clover Valley Golf Course near Johnstown.


Kesler was presented a plaque by Bob Shoemaker, former Big Walnut and Heath High School boy basketball coach. He was recognized with former coaches Fritz Caudle of Johnstown and Pete Liptrap of Pickerington (now Central) and North high schools.


Steve began his 28-year journalism career at The Sunbury News in 1976. After serving as an assistant sports writer/photographer, he was named Sports Editor of The News in 1982, a position he held until the spring of 2004.


During his career with The News, Steve covered Big Walnut and its ever-expanding sports teams from middle through high school. He has worked at the former Suburban News Publications in production and layout for 22 weekly newspapers and is currently at a Delaware yearbook photography business.


He has received numerous honors during his career, including a First Place for Best Weekly Sports Department from the Ohio Newspaper Association Osman C. Hooper Show. Steve is a lifelong resident of Sunbury.


Kesler, Caudle and Liptrap were presented watches between District 11 Girls and Boys All-Star basketball games Friday evening at Granville High School. Big Walnut seniors Skylar Fleak and Logan Boyd played in the contests.


Shoemaker is the District 11 Hall of Fame Coordinator along with Director John Feazel of Olentangy and Treasurer/Secretary Carl Dufford of Johnstown.
