Civil War School Day on Square

June 4, 2014

The annual Civil War School Day on Sunbury Village Square attracted Close to 800 students from grades four through eight who walked through eight stations scattered around Village Square and at the Myers Inn Museum. One of the stations was the Myers Inn Blacksmith Shop, operated by Rick Helwig. Helwig told the students that 150 years ago they would have been fortunate to have a third grade education, before being apprenticed out in their early teens to trades such as blacksmith or furrier.
