Relief Coming for North Side Drivers

New Ramps Open Tomorrow, Weather Permitting

Just in time for Thanksgiving travel, the last two ramps from US 23 to I-270 west and State Route 315 will open tomorrow morning, weather permitting.

By 5 AM Tuesday, there will be a new traffic pattern on US 23 south approaching I-270. The far right southbound lane will be for SR 315 traffic only. The lane left of that will be for traffic headed to I-270.

US 23 SB Lane Assignments

If north on US 23 coming from Worthington, you take the same ramp you’ve always used, but the ramp splits under US 23. Traffic headed to SR 315 will stay right, while traffic going to I-270 west will continue straight.

US 23 NB to I-270 WB

The new ramp and bridge to I-270 west goes over traffic exiting at SR 315, which eliminates weaving traffic. An additional graphic of the interchange can be found on our website.

Here’s how traffic will be impacted overnight to make this happen.

7 PM: I-270 WB will reduce to three lanes between I-71 & SR 315

9 PM: I-270 WB will reduce to two lanes between I-71 & SR 315

10 PM: I-270 WB will reduce to one lane between I-71 and SR 315.

5 AM: All lanes & ramps open.

These are the last two ramps to open at the I-270/US 23 interchange, which means construction of the $69 million North Side Mega Fix project is nearing completion except for final paving.

Drivers should expect to see lighting and median work through the end of the year, but impacts to traffic will be minimal.

CLOSED

Several roadways in Central Ohio remain closed due to high water. Drivers are urged not to ignore the ‘road closed’ barricades that ODOT has placed at several locations and drive through a flooded road. The water could be deeper than you think, and moving faster than it appears.

Marion County: Rt. 203 CLOSED between Rt. 4 and Prospect.

Delaware County: SR 521 CLOSED at the railroad bridge just north of Rt. 36.

Ramps NOT OPENING Tomorrow on NSMF

Foul weather has pushed back the opening of the last two ramps on the I-270/SR 315/US 23 North Side Mega Fix Project to next week.

Now the two new ramps that carry US 23 traffic to I-270 west and SR 315 are not expected to open until Tuesday morning, November 21 before the morning commute. The paint used to stripe the lane lines will not stick to the roadway surface if it is too wet and cold.

Unfortunately, the forecasts are calling for wet and cold conditions the entire weekend.

Crews are still working tonight on parts of the project that are not as weather sensitive.

Here’s how traffic will be impacted:

7 PM: I-270 EB will reduce to three lanes between Sawmill Road & I-71

7 PM: I-270 WB will reduce to three lanes between I-71 & Sawmill Road

9 PM: I-270 WB will reduce to two lanes

9 PM: Ramps from I-270 EB to SR 315 NB & SB will close. Detour: I-270 EB to US 23 to I-270 WB to SR 315.

6 AM: All lanes & ramps open

An advisory of how traffic will be impact Monday into Tuesday will be released later.
