After an absence of several years, the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Volunteers are returning to the Community Library in Sunbury to assist taxpayers in preparing and e-filing federal, state, and (when necessary) school district income tax returns.
All tax preparation volunteers are IRS-certified and the service is completely free.
While Tax-Aide’s focus is on low-to-moderate income senior citizens, the service is available to anyone, regardless of income or age as long as the tax return is within the scope of the program. Exclusions include, but are not limited to the following: Schedule C with expenses over $25,000; Complicated Schedule D (Capital Gains and Losses) without proper paperwork; Schedule E with any expenses; Schedule F (Farm Income); Active Military; and some other more complicated returns.
Tax preparation is by Appointment Only which are available on Tuesdays from February 7 through April 11, 2017, and will take approximately 90 minutes. You do not need to be an AARP member to use this free service.
