Crews prepare for winter weather

ODOT UPDATE

Staff Report

Don’t let the sunshine fool you — there may be a break in the weather, but ODOT’s not taking a break. Another round of freezing rain and winter weather is expected to move into Central Ohio and ODOT is ready.

· Ice and freezing rain is forecast, so crews in Delaware, Franklin, Madison and Pickaway Counties are treating interstates, state and US routes, ramps and bridges with brine

· Brine is a mixture of salt and water, which helps prevent the ice from sticking to the pavement

· ODOT managers in Central Ohio will continue monitor the forecast throughout the day

We are “OUT THERE” battling ice and freezing rain

Ice and freezing rain all over Central Ohio means ODOT is salting and treating roads and bridges as you head out to school and work.

115 ODOT snow plow drivers are on duty.

· ODOT crews in Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway and Union counties

· Their focus is salting interstates, state and US routes, ramps and bridges

· With temperatures still in the 30’s, Central Ohio drivers need to take it slow and allow extra time for their commute.

· Remember in Ice and Snow, Take it Slow.

· Crew sizes will be adjusted throughout the day depending on road conditions and the forecast.
