The Delaware Chair Company made more than a million chairs between 1870, when it began business on the west side of the Olentangy River, until it officially ceased operations at the Flax St. building in 1935.
Images and information about this local brand name — the company, its products, and its people – will be presented at the next Delaware County Historical Society community program on Thurs. May 18 at 7 p.m. at the Barn at Stratford, 2690 Stratford Rd., Delaware.
Chairs from the Society’s collection will be available for viewing and Steve Bemiller, antiques expert and recently retired Vice-President, Auctioneer and Appraiser with Garth’s Auctions <http://garthsauction.com/> , will discuss their characteristics and value. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or another object associated with Delaware County to the program for Mr. Bemiller to discuss.
The program is free however donations are requested to help defray the operating expenses of the Society. For more information, email Programs@DelawareOhioHistory.org or call 740-369-3831, extension 3.
