Senator Announced University of Akron will Hold 2017 Propel Ohio: Collegiate Leadership Summit

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) convened Ohio’s college and university presidents in Washington, D.C. for his annual Ohio College Presidents Conference. Brown’s forum – the first of its kind for college presidents of Ohio – brings together leaders from two-year, four-year, private, public, and community colleges to discuss shared challenges and goals for students and institutions of higher learning.

Brown and Ohio College Presidents discussed solutions for tackling student loan debt and making college affordable and accessible for all Ohio students. Brown will also discuss student priorities for Higher Education Act (HEA) Reauthorization, which includes funding for students support programs like Pell grants and campus-based aid programs. Conference panelists engaged at all levels of education advocacy gave remarks during Brown’s conference.

“Each year the College Presidents Conference brings together leaders of Ohio’s colleges and universities to discuss best practices to improve students’ education and experience,” said Brown. “It is a great opportunity for me to learn from our college presidents, and for each of them to learn from each other. I’m committed to working with Ohio colleges and universities to ensure that all Ohioans have access to an affordable, quality education.”

During the conference, Brown also announced the University of Akron will host Brown’s 2017 Propel Ohio: Collegiate Leadership Summit on Friday, November 17, 2017. The one-day leadership program will feature Brown, guest speakers and workshop facilitators who will actively engage students on issues affecting Ohio. The summit will also include an Internship Fair. Each of Ohio’s two-year, four-year public and private colleges and universities and regional campuses are invited to appoint up to four undergraduate students and one administrator to attend the program.
