COLUMBUS – Twenty-nine Ohio employers will share $677,000 in grants from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) to purchase equipment designed to substantially reduce or eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses.

“Preventing accidents and illnesses is clearly good for workers, and it is also a smart move for businesses to keep their premiums low,” said BWC Administrator/CEO Sarah Morrison. “Employers that invest in safety know that a healthy, productive workforce leads to a prosperous business and a healthier bottom line.”

BWC approved the Safety Intervention Grants in April. The recipient employers operate in 21 counties around the state, including: Butler; Columbiana; Cuyahoga; Darke; Defiance; Delaware; Fayette; Franklin; Hamilton; Hancock; Holmes; Mahoning; Marion; Medina; Miami; Montgomery; Scioto; Seneca; Stark; Trumbull; Tuscarawas.

The Safety Intervention Grant program provides employers with a 3-to-1 matching amount up to a maximum of $40,000. Quarterly data reports and follow-up case studies help BWC determine the effectiveness of employers’ safety interventions and establish best practices for accident and injury prevention.
