Women Giving Together, a giving circle of the Delaware County Foundation, donated $10,000 to the Jacob Edward Walls Foundation. The grant will be used for a sober living program for women at the new Unity House in Delaware. The grant will help the Unity House provide a secure and structured environment for women to participate in a holistic, sober living recovery program. In addition, Unity House will be a community resource center supported in partnership with the Delaware County Re-entry Coalition, Community of Grace, and various local re-entry specific service agencies to provide support for the greater Delaware community.
“This is a new project for Delaware County,” Women Giving Together member Tracy MacDowell said. “The addiction problem is complex and will take a lot of collaboration to solve. This initiative has the potential to make great strides for the people in our community.”
Women Giving Together was formed in 2011 in an effort to support some of the unfulfilled needs in the county. To date the group has granted more than $145,000 to non-profit organizations that serve Delaware County. The group has 26 members, each of whom donate their own dollars to make the grants possible.
“As more people learn about what we are trying to achieve here in Delaware County, our giving circle will continue to grow, and the more it grows, the more good we can do,” said founding member Sue Mahler.
