Pond Clinic for Homeowners

Delaware, Ohio, June 27, 2017 – Do you have a pond? Are you thinking about building a pond for fishing and swimming? If so, you will want to mark your calendar for the Delaware Soil & Water Conservation District’s (SWCD) upcoming Pond Clinic which will be geared for homeowners. The workshop will be held July 13 at Glen Oak Park, 7126 Blue Holly Drive, Lewis Center, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This workshop is open to owners of new ponds, owners of old ponds, or those who are contemplating building a pond. Ohio’s private ponds provide many benefits including wildlife habitat, fishing, swimming, irrigation, as well as beautification.

The evening will feature the following topics and speakers:

• Pond site selection and construction will be covered by speakers from the Delaware SWCD

• Pond management including weed and algae control and aeration by Steve Fender of Fender’s Fish Hatchery

• Canada goose and muskrat control by Perry Orndorff, aquatic specialist

• Fish stocking by Steve Fender

The cost to attend is $5 per family which includes light refreshments, one copy of the Ohio Pond Management Handbook by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources – Division of Wildlife and Planning and Caring for your Pond by Delaware Soil and Water Conservation District.

Advanced planning, appropriate site selection, and careful construction are key to a successful pond.

Proper pond management can ensure that your pond is an asset that you can enjoy for years to come. Join us on July 13th at Glen Oak Park for an informative evening.
