POWELL – Enjoy the hot summer nights with cool jazz at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, as the Jazz Arts Group and Zoo celebrate their 12th annual JazZoo Concert Series.

Presented by Cardinal Health, JazZoo offers four nights of swinging, soulful sounds on select Fridays in July and August.

The Zoo closes at 7 p.m. and the concerts begin at 8 p.m. at the Zoo’s outdoor theater, Water’s Edge. All concerts feature world-renowned artistic director Byron Stripling and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra.

The 2017 JazZoo Concert Series lineup is as follows:

July 14 “Sing, Sing, Swing”

Your favorite swing era hits by Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and more, performed as only your Columbus Jazz Orchestra can with special guests Ken Peplowski on clarinet and Check Redd on vibraphone.

July 21 “The Ultimate American Songbook”

Songs by George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers and Cole Porter from beloved Broadway shows and classic movie musicals come to life in this concert featuring one of Columbus’s favorite songbirds, Kelly Crum Delavaris, and the high-spirited high jinks of xylophone virtuoso Ian Finkel.

Aug. 4 “Basie, Brubeck and Beyond”

‘Take Five’ with Byron Stripling and the high octane Columbus Jazz Orchestra as they perform memorable tunes by Dave Brubeck, Count Basie and others featuring former Count Basie Orchestra vocalist Carmen Bradford and singer/pianist Dave Powers.

Aug. 11 “Rock and Jazz Hits of The ‘80s”

The ‘80s are back and we’ll play some of the biggest rock and jazz hits of the era from Blood, Sweat & Tears, Sting and Steely Dan featuring Broadway showstopper Michael McElroy and Columbus soul man Phil Clark.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and general seating is first come first serve. Food trucks and a cash bar will be available. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and seating, but outside alcohol, straws and glass are prohibited.

General adult admission is $35 per show ($40 at the door) or $115 for the complete series. Discounted admission is available for Zoo members and Columbus Jazz Orchestra subscribers ($30 if pre-ordered, $35 at the door). Concert tables of eight are available for purchase for $400 for a single concert or $1,400 for the concert series. This seating does not include food, and catering is available in advance through Nourish at the Zoo. JazZoo guests are invited to arrive as early as 9 a.m. the day of the concert to enjoy all the Zoo has to offer prior to the event that evening.

Wristbands will be mailed or placed at the Zoo’s Will Call ticket booth if purchased less than seven days prior to the event.
