Celebrate First Friday Oct. 6 with Main Street Delaware

Event to Feature Fire Trucks, Pumpkins, Outdoor Art Display

DELAWARE – Activities for all ages will be in ready supply during Main Street Delaware’s Oct. 6 First Friday celebration.

The 6-9 p.m. event, sponsored by Performance Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Delaware, will include a display of fire-fighting equipment by the Delaware Fire Department, along with engaging and informative fire safety demonstrations in the downtown.

The Oct. 6 First Friday also will include free pumpkins for the littlest ghouls and goblins provided by Main Street Delaware and Powell-based MadMax Farms.

In addition, everyone is invited to stop by Ohio Wesleyan University’s Richard M. Ross Art Museum to watch “The Shadows We Cast,” a 12-minute, architectural-scale video that will be projected on the building’s exterior beginning at dusk. The video was created using materials from the archives of the Delaware County Historical Society and the university.

Sandusky Street will be closed between Spring Street and Winter Street to accommodate First Friday activities.

The Delaware Fire Department plans to perform live burn and rescue demonstrations, as well as a rappelling and aerial demonstration using downtown buildings. Firefighters will be on hand for a children’s “spray house” and drills, as well as to train people to use fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.

For those seeking even more reasons to come downtown, the Main Street Delaware Farmers’ Market continues from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 28. The markets, sponsored by Mount Carmel, are held outdoors on Sandusky Street.

In November, Main Street Delaware will celebrate with its Nov. 4 Thankfull First Friday event and then welcome Santa to the city during the new “Home for the Holidays” weekend Dec. 1-3. This year’s parade theme is “Delaware:Your Home for the Holidays,” and entry forms are available online now at www.mainstreetdelaware.com/parade.

Also to celebrate the season, Main Street Delaware’s Dec. 1 First Friday will feature the lighting of the downtown Christmas tree, complete with carolers, horse-drawn wagon rides, and Santa’s House.
