Otterbein Department of Music to present
Fall Collage Concert: The Great American Songbook
Westerville, OH—The Otterbein University Department of Music, along with the Department of Theatre and Dance, will present the Fall Collage Concert: The Great American Songbook at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. Tickets to the concert will be sold at the door for $15 general admission, or free for children under 12 and for students (of all institutions, including high schools) with valid ID. Ticket proceeds will benefit the Craig Johnson Fund for the Future of Music at Otterbein. There will also be an opportunity to donate to the fund at the concert.
The concert is a fast-paced showcase featuring large and small ensembles and soloists. Some highlights include the Wind Ensemble performing an original work by Duke Ellington, the String Orchestra’s performance of selections from “West Side Story,” and George Gershwin’s “Summertime” as interpreted by the Anticipations, the department’s rock cover band. The talents of the vocal and musical theater students will have ample opportunity to take the spotlight on this program. Come and enjoy the treasures of American song as Otterbein’s students swing, croon, and strut their way through The Great American Songbook.
Youth Philharmonic of Central Ohio Presents Their Fall 2017 Concert
Westerville, OH—The Youth Philharmonic of Central Ohio (YPCO) will present a fall concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct, 16, in the Fritsche Theater at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. This concert is free and open to the public.
YPCO is an independent youth orchestra founded in 2000. Currently in residence at Otterbein University, YPCO serves young musicians from throughout the central Ohio region by providing an educational performing experience that explores the musical repertoire of the symphony orchestra. The orchestra is conducted by Steven Wedell and supported by a board of directors. Through the year, young musicians also have opportunities to work with music educators and professional musicians in coaching sessions.
For its fall concert, YPCO will perform W.A. Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 in G minor along with G.F. Handel’s Overture in D minor. The string orchestra with harp will also be featured in a more recent composition, “In the Company of Angels,” written in 2001 by American composer William Hofeldt.

Redbird Faculty Jazz Combo to Perform at Old Bag of Nails
Westerville, OH—The Redbird Faculty Jazz combo at Otterbein University will present its first performance of the fall semester at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, on the third floor of the Old Bag of Nails Restaurant in Uptown Westerville, 24 N. State St. Songs will be selected from original works from Redbird members that range from the traditional to the contemporary, as well as standards from the jazz lexicon. Admission is free and open to the public; a cash bar will be available.
