Most Big Walnut folks who follow sports would remember recent Big Walnut High School graduate Claire Chatterton, outside hitter on the varsity volleyball team until sidelined by an injury early in her senior year season, and a member of the swim team through her junior year.

But folks in Columbia, Missouri, are getting to know a different Claire Chatterton. As a Journalism major at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Chatterton interns as an on-air anchor and digital content manager at KOMU 8 News, an NBC affiliate covering Mid-Missouri, including Columbia and the state capitol, Jefferson City.

KOMU 8 is the only major network affiliate in the United States that acts as a university-owned commercial television station utilizing its newsroom as a working lab for students. More than 150,000 families live in the KOMU 8 coverage area.
