Last Saturday, 2015 Big Walnut High graduate Avery Kerns, a freshman walk-on at Ohio University, and Olivia Small, a 2014 Big Walnut graduate and OSU sophomore, competed in the Division 1 All Ohio Meet at the French Field House at Ohio State University.

Small qualified for the Big Ten Championships this coming Saturday by completing a career indoor best long jump of 18 feet and 11½ inches.

Kerns qualified to compete at this Saturday’s MAC (Mid American Conference) championships by high-jumping to a career indoor best of 5 feet and 4¼ inches at the All Ohio Meet.

“Having two former Big Walnut jumpers competing in the Big Ten and MAC championships as a freshman and a sophomore is something I never thought I would see,” said Big Walnut High School track and field jumps coach Mike Ryder. “They obviously continue to work their tails off, and surely deserve it.”
