June parks programs slated


Preservation Parks of Delaware has announced upcoming programs:

The following programs require advance registration. For registration, email register@preservationparks.com, or call 740-524-8600, Ext. 3.

• “Celebrate Summer!” campout, Friday, June 19, 7:30 p.m. through Saturday, June 20, 9 a.m., at Gallant Woods Preserve, 2151 Buttermilk Hill Road — Space is limited, and there is a $10 fee per family. Register by Friday, June 12.

The following programs do not require registration:

Saturday, June 20, 10 a.m. “Hike for Health” — Join us on a hike and experience the health benefits you receive from walking. This is one of a series of hikes in our FLEX (Free Local EXercise) program. Register a week in advance for your first hike. Hikes are free; there is a $5 fee for a hike series tee shirt. All ages. Saturday, June 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday, June 21, 12 noon to 4 p.m. “Railroad Fun” — Watch model trains as they travel through a miniature village, and learn a bit about the railroad industry in America. Free; all ages. Big Walnut Community Trailhouse, 168 South Vernon Street, Sunbury.

Sunday, June 21, 2 p.m. “Habitat Happenings: Wetlands” — Bring the family out to explore wetland habitats and the importance they play in creating a healthy ecosystem. Free; all ages. Gallant Woods Preserve, 2150 Buttermilk Hill Road. (Meet in the sled hill parking area.)
