If your children like to get a bit muddy, and you’re looking for an event where they can play in the mud as part of a wholesome activity, look no further than the May 1, “Eagle Dash,” a mud run obstacle course at Freedom Park in Sunbury sponsored by the Big Walnut Civic Association.
Event organizer Emmy Kline said check-in begins at 12:30 p.m., with age group races starting at 1 p.m. The cost is $5 per race participant.
Kline said check-in would continue through 2:15. Parents should check in at least 20 minutes before a child’s age group races.
Kline said children 5 and under (with parent if needed) will go through the intentionally muddy course beginning at 1 p.m. Participants 6 to 8 years old begin racing at 1:30 p.m.; 9- and 10-year-olds will begin at 2 p.m.; and 11- to 13-year-olds start the course at 2:30 p.m.
Participants should park in the Sunbury Church of the Nazarene parking lot when they arrive, Kline said, and check-in at the Freedom Park shelter house.
“We will have a DJ playing music and Kona Ice will be there selling snow cones,” Kline said. “The race is an obstacle course. It is not a timed race; it’s just for fun, so there will be no medals or awards.”
Kline said the course does include mud and water, so children should dress accordingly, and bring a towel and a change of clothes for after the race.
