Mentor awards presented

Members of the Big Walnut Local School District honored their own at a reception hosted by Roush Honda at Big Walnut High School on Thursday, May 19, immediately preceding the Big Walnut Board of Education meeting.

Recognized during the reception were the 2015-16 school year recipients of the Roush Honda/Eagle Mentor Award.

Roush Honda/Eagle Mentor Award recipients are selected through a nomination process that began in March of this year. School administrators, staff members and area residents were asked to nominate individuals they believe have made a positive impact in the life of Big Walnut students.

Criteria included involvement, support and communication for the school building and community; impacting the lives of children in a positive manner; and promoting the welfare of children at home, school or community.

A panel of volunteers and staff selected the final honorees.

Present for the ceremony were five Roush Honda employees, with Kandy LaZarrus serving as spokesperson.

Following opening remarks by Superintendent Angie Pollock, Pollock and Assistant Superintendent Mark Cooper alternated introducing each award recipients.

Those recognized are: Amy Eikenberry, fourth-grade teacher at Souders Elementary, nominated by Quincey, Ryan and Deanna Dunlap; Cindy Erndt nominated by Angie Stooksbury; Rina Hoge, fifth-grade teacher at the intermediate school, nominated by Ryan McLane and Sarah Wytzka; Mark Inscho, nominated by Ron McClure and Pollock; Barbi Newman, nominated by Matt Wilson; Nicole Leinweber, and Chris Epstein; Tonia Carter, fourth-grade teacher at General Rosecrans Elementary, nominated by Amy Mix; Emmy Kline, nominated by Kim Castiglione and Melissa Evans; Annie Clark, instruction facilitator, nominated by Big Walnut Elementary staff; Tina Costello, nominated by Carrie Knight; Kelly Byanski, tech tutor at the intermediate school, nominated by Mike Stone; Lori Ferguson, nominated by Sandy Chiampo and Nicole Lienweber; Julie Ford, nominated by Mary Gray; Jen Neiset, nominated by Robin Keating; Mike McGann, nominated by Traci and Matt Gulley; Elizabeth Bryant, nominated by Nancy Crawford; Barbara Dean, nominated by Kim Castiglione and Melissa Evans; Stephanie Hoover, nominated by Amy Eikenberry; and Wendy Weiler nominated by Angie Stooksbury.
