Everyone’s heard the old saying about skills — use it or lose it. But that bromide applies to many other things – like the Delaware Area Transit Agency’s Sunbury Purple Route.
DATA Bus is considering discontinuing its Sunbury Purple Route due to lack of ridership.
DATA will hold a public hearing from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. today about lack of interest in the Sunbury route at its office at 119 Henderson Court in Delaware, and will accept additional comments from the public until Friday, June 10.
Ginny Berry, DATA Bus Marketing and Community Relations, recently released Sunbury Purple Route statistics, and the numbers tell the story:
There were 53 purple route riders in November, an average of two riders each day; there were 60 riders in December, three daily. Ridership increased to 71 in January, averaging four riders each day; February saw 42 riders, two daily. In March ridership increased to 71, or three riders each day; and April ridership was 39 for the month, or two riders daily.
In addition to the discontinuation of Sunbury’s Purple Route, other DATA Bus planned changes taking place July 5 are: changes to Delaware City Weekday Routes, changes to Green Routes, and changes to Saturday Service to more closely mirror weekday routes.
