Brea Medlock, a 2012 Big Walnut High School graduate, capped her college track and field career by representing the Wittenberg College track and field team at the 2016 NCAA Division III National Track & Field Championships at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
During the May 26-28 nationals, Medlock competed in the 400-meter dash, seeded 22nd in the nation going into the meet, and finished 13th in the nation by running a 55.98.
Big Walnut High School girls track and field coach Joe Evener noted that Medlock, in her senior year at Wittenberg, holds nine school records for the Tigers.
“Early in the season, Brea held the school record for the 400-meter dash, with a time of 56.21 seconds, and broke it again at the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, replacing the prior time with 55.97 seconds,” Evener said. “Her 400-meter dash time is not only a Wittenberg record, but also a NCAC record and the time that qualified her for the national meet.”
Evener said Medlock was also a member of Wittenberg’s All-Ohio Relay Team that set the meet record of 3:56.34 in the 4×400-meter relay.
“Given her athletic skills and record-breaking performance, Medlock was named North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in April,” Evener said. “She was also named to the Division III USTFCCCA All-Region team in the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash, and the 4 by 400-meter relay.”
Evener said earlier this year Medlock completed her final indoor track season at the NCAA III championships, held at Grinnell College in Iowa, by qualifying to the meet in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash for the second year in a row.
Medlock added several other awards during her time in Wittenberg, Evener said. In 2013, she was awarded the Newcomer Award by the team, in 2014 she was awarded Most Valuable in Sprints and Most Valuable Overall, in 2015 she was named NCAC Athlete of the Week for Feb. 17.
Medlock was the 2015 Indoor NCAC Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year, 2015 Outdoor NCAC Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year, February 2016 NCAC Athlete of the Week, April 2016 NCAC Athlete of the Week, and the previously mentioned 2016 NCAC Indoor Sprinter/Hurdler of the Year.
