The Olentangy Local School District Board of Education has named its fourth high school as the Olentangy Berlin High School at its meeting Sept. 29.

“Does this mean I have to stop calling it cuatro,” school board member Mindy Patrick said in jest. “Because I call it cuatro.”

Cuatro, of course, is the Spanish word for four, but was likely not among the submissions from district residents to name the new high school on Berlin Station Road east of Gregory Road through the school website from Aug. 30 to Sept. 16.

In the two-and-a-half week period, there were more than 400 responses. The Berlin name received 232 submissions, while Olentangy Alum Creek High School received 11 and Olentangy Cheshire High School received 10.

Additionally, the fourth school’s name is of an original Olentangy school that shut down in the 1970s. Many of its alumni still live in the district.

The school’s mascot will be determined after the new school’s principal and students have provided their input, according to Superintendent Mark T. Raiff.

The board also honored Julie Wagner Feasel, who is the second-longest serving board member in the school district. Feasel, who originally joined the board in September 2006, received flowers and a performance from the Olentangy High School Show Choir.
