American Legion Post 457 is holding a fishing derby from 9 a.m. until noon October 8 at the post, 230 Otis Street.

Fishing will be at the Post 457 entrance to Sunbury’s two up-ground reservoirs.

The fishing derby is open to all Veterans, their children and grandchildren, and all members of the general public.

“It will be a fun time to spend with family, friends, fellow veterans, and members of the community and best of all, lunch is provided,” said Post 457 Adjutant Gene Fuller. “Fishing poles will be provided for anyone who needs one, but a fishing license will be required for adults.”

Fuller said there would be lessons for youngsters on fish knot tying, how to bait hook, and safe hook removal.

“There will also be a practice casting area with poles provided,” Fuller said. “And there will be an award for the largest fish of any species – a one-year paid membership with American Legion Post 457.”
