Halloween comes only once each year, but the evening provides an opportunity for a fun night out for the entire family as costumed children roam neighborhoods knocking on doors, anticipating a bag full of sweet treats when the evening is over.
Some communities even provide open house events, complete with costume contests and refreshments.
This year, Genoa Township will hold its annual Trick or Treat Village & Fire Safety Open House from 12-noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, at the Genoa Township Safety Complex, 7049 Big Walnut Road. Organizers said the township’s Trick or Treat and Village provides a safe environment for children to Trick or Treat and collect a bag full of candy.
Genoa Township’s neighborhood Beggar’s Night will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 31.

The Village of Galena’s Beggar’s Night is scheduled for Monday, October 31. Ghosts and Goblins will be knocking on Galena neighborhood doors between 6 and 7:15 p.m.
Galena’s Annual Halloween Costume Contest will follow at 7:30 p.m. at Galena Village Hall, 109 Harrison Street. Judges will be looking for the best ghouls, goblins, pirates, and princesses. Costumes will be judged for first, second and third places for age groups 0-4, 5-7, 8-10, 11 and up, and for groups. Cider and donuts will be provided.

One final note: Halloween is a children’s night out. Organizers of all eastern Delaware County Beggar’s Night activities encourage drivers to use extra caution on roadways and while driving in area neighborhoods.
