Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast

Staff Report

The Evening Kiwanis Club of Delaware will hold its 14th Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 7 a.m. to noon in the Dempsey Middle School commons.

Members of this 98-year old service club have been welcoming and thanking veterans and members of the Armed Services for their service for the last 13 years. Not only do these heroes get an all-you-can-eat breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and choice of beverages, but last year they also received thank you cards personally made by members of the local Aktion Club which both Delaware Kiwanis Clubs sponsor, a news release states.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. With clubs located in more than 80 countries around the world, Kiwanis is dedicated to “Serving the children of the world.”

“The Evening Kiwanis has been working to better the community we live in as well as to benefit the children of Delaware for the last 98 years,” the release states. “Over the years, proceeds from our pancake breakfast have gone to a variety of children’s projects in Delaware and allow us to help any one of the many agencies and non-profits in Delaware County whenever the need arises.”

Last year’s pancake breakfast proceeds were presented to St. Mary’s School to replace aging playground with an enlarged and improved one that is all-inclusive and accessible not only to the school children, but also to any of the children of Delaware. Proceeds from this year’s pancake breakfast will be applied to several projects including providing an AmTryke therapeutic tricycle for either a veteran (wounded warrior) or child who is unable to operate a traditional bike. These custom-built bikes provide mobility and independence for people of all ages with all kinds of disabilities.

Tickets for this year’s event are available from any of the members of the Evening Kiwanis Club of Delaware or can be reserved by going to the Club’s Facebook page and leaving a message with full contact information. Ticket prices remain unchanged. Adult tickets cost $5, elementary students are $4, and children 5 years old and under are free.

The Evening Kiwanis Club of Delaware meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5:45 p.m. at The Old Bag of Nails Pub on North Sandusky Street in Delaware. The Club is presently beginning to make plans to celebrate 100 years of service in 2018 to Delaware and children.
