Delaware County, Ohio – The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 4:10 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 4th, from concerned family members who hadn’t heard from their loved ones. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Aurora Avenue residence of the missing couple in Lewis Center and began gathering facts and searching the area. Approximately one hour later, deputies discovered the body of 33-year-old Rachel E. Reutzel, in the family vehicle, at the Lewis Center access road to Alum Creek beach. Shortly thereafter, 41-year-old Todd Reutzel’s body was discovered about 75 yards from the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead from gunshot wounds. This is an ongoing investigation, but it is believed Mr. Reutzel took his own life after shooting his wife.
The Sheriff’s Office had no recent prior history at this address or with either of the deceased.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office Sunday evening were Genoa Township Police, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Preservation Parks of Delaware County, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
