Representative Dorothy Pelanda declared her candidacy to be Ohio’s next Secretary of State. The Republican State Representative and House Majority Floor Leader made the announcement on her birthday, March 1st, which she proudly shares with the state of Ohio.
“I am running for Secretary of State to ensure that our elections are fair, open, and handled with integrity,” said Pelanda. “As a custodian of democracy, I will facilitate an environment where all Ohioans are confident that our voices are heard. It is vital that we as Ohioans have the opportunity to exercise our constitutional right to vote, thus empowering us to forge our own path in achieving our dreams.”
Pelanda continued, “As Secretary of State, I will work to provide a gateway for Ohio’s existing and future businesses to thrive. As a small business owner myself for over 25 years, I firmly believe the Secretary of State’s office can and should be a partner in easing the unnecessary bureaucratic burdens that can often cause heartache among our businesses both small and large.”
Pelanda’s career in public service began in 2011 when she, as someone known and respected in her community after establishing a successful law practice and small business, was appointed to the Ohio House of Representatives. A proud conservative, she was reelected with overwhelming support in 2012, 2014 and 2016 – achieving over 70% of the vote in the past two general elections. In 2015, Pelanda was elected by her Republican colleagues to serve as House Majority Whip. In 2017, she was elevated to the position of House Majority Floor Leader, the number three position in the House of Representatives.
As a State Representative, she has focused on preserving and protecting our fair election system in Ohio, revamping juvenile and elder care laws, and battling the state’s heroin epidemic. Pelanda’s legislative work has earned her a multitude of endorsements, including the Ohio Farm Bureau, American Conservative Union, National Rifle Association, Ohio Right to Life, Ohio Chamber of Commerce, Ohio Manufacturers Association, and National Federation of Independent Business.
A graduate of Marysville High School, Miami University and the University of Akron School of Law, Pelanda has called the state of Ohio home for all her life. Growing up on her family farm in Marysville, the values of hard work, steadfast determination, resourcefulness and eternal optimism were instilled in her at a young age. Pelanda still lives on the farmland in Union County where she was raised with her husband, Sam, and has three adult children.
