Delaware General Health District Health Commissioner Sheila Hiddleson was in chambers during last Wednesday evening’s Sunbury Village Council meeting to present an update on health district activities.

Hiddleson said the heath district is finishing the countywide mosquito monitoring program, with just a couple of pools of West Nile Virus-infected mosquitoes detected. Areas with infected mosquitoes were sprayed, and the health district is performing daily Ebola monitoring on 15 to 16 individuals in the county who have traveled in Africa, with no problems found.

“We’ve been working on surveying students in the schools,” Hiddleson said. “Their priorities seem to be mental health, substance abuse, obesity and environmental health.”

Hiddleson said the 2015 Youth Health Assessment included a YouTube Photo/Voice Project involving 24 Delaware County students that can be accessed online.

“We made a change on how we do nuisance reporting,” Hiddleson added. “When we’re called about a public nuisance that needs to be abated, we will also CC you. We want to be sure we’re good partners with the village. If there’s anything you’re doing that’s health-related, we would be more than happy to partner with you.”
