Pillow case project

Big Walnut Girl Scouts learned about preparing for emergencies through the “Disney Pillow Case Project.” Ty Kopel, of the Columbus Red Cross Chapter, taught the girls about what to do in case of a fire and discussed what type of emergency supplies they should have available. The girls received pillow cases that they decorated. Kopel discussed items to fill their pillow cases with, such as a first aid kit, a flashlight, batteries, a portable radio, a toy and a change of clothes. Kopel encouraged the girls to talk with their families about developing emergency evacuation plans and practicing them. Above, two local Girl Scouts decorate their Disney pillow cases while learning about how to handle emergencies.
