State Rep. Margaret Ann Ruhl, R-Mount Vernon, attended the Dec. 3 Genoa Township trustees’ meeting to present a commendation from the Ohio House to township roads and maintenance supervisor Bob Mathews.

Ruhl and Ohio House members commended Mathews for recently receiving the Service Above Self Award from the Westerville Sunrise Rotary.

“You are a remarkable individual combining civic concern, dedication and selfless initiation to become a dynamic member of the community,” Ruhl said, reading from the commendation. “With your decisive leadership, you’re driven to better the world around you.”

Ruhl said the Ohio House proclamation was co-sponsored by State Rep. Scott Ryan, R-Granville Township, and signed by House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger.

Each year the Westerville Sunrise Rotary recognizes an employee who has contributed to a better quality of life in Genoa Township, gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve, and has served as a positive role model.

Mathews, nominated by Genoa Township human resources manager Linda Greco, is not the first Genoa Township employee to be recognized by members of the Westerville Sunrise Rotary. Last year township Fire Marshal Craig Skeel was a Service Above Self Award recipient.
