This was as close as we could get to a downed power line on Sunbury Road.

We had just heard about the Big Walnut Historical Society’s presentation on ice cream places in Delaware County (see the article elsewhere in this week’s edition) when we drove by the Sunbury Plaza and noticed the new building taking shape across from the BTS&G Fire Station is going to be a Dairy Queen. They’re hiring, too.

New museum

The Galena Historic Foundation will feature the grand opening of their Museum located in the Galena Municipal Building, Galena, Ohio on Saturday October 7, 2017 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. during their annual Heritage Days Event. The new museum has lots of early Galena historic artifacts and memorabilia on display. Light refreshments will be served.

Power outage

Last week on Sept. 25, power lines were down at Routes 37-37 west of Rt. 3 and east of Cheshire Road. It was a mess for motorists trying to get around the repairs, with people going along North Galena Road to Route 521 or using I-71 to Route 62. We never did find out what exactly happened, but heard people in the neighborhood were in the dark for hours. That didn’t stop the crews working on the new apartments across the street from General Rosecrans Elementary, though.

Flower Show Winners

The winners of the Harlem Township Garden Club Flower Show were announced, which happened in conjunction with the Harlem Days Festivities on August 19-20. The show was judged by an Ohio Association of Garden Clubs Judge, Joy Sprang. The winners are: Leyton Lumbra, novice class winner, Carol Champa, Best of Show in Horticulture; Diane Kabler, Judges Award of Distinction and Sweepstakes winner; and Diana Daily, Best of Show Artistic Design.

Upcoming concerts of note

Fans of country music, Trace Adkins will perform live at the Midland Theatre in Newark, Fri. Oct 6; and Chris Stapleton will perform Nov. 3 at Nationwide Arena.
