The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay and Safari Golf Club, all Delaware County-based businesses, are seeking seasonal employees, or as they like to call them, “Zooper” employees.
The positions, listed on the Zoo’s website, www.columbuszoo.org, include retail, food and beverage, maintenance, guest assistants and ride attendants.
“We’re looking for multiple openings on each of these jobs,” Zoo spokeswoman Jennifer Wilson told The Delaware Gazette. Applicants need to be 16 or older, and weekday availability is preferred.
The length of employment varies, depending on the job. For example, the water park jobs are through Labor Day, until October at the golf club or through the Winter Wildlights season (Jan. 3) at the Zoo. Wilson said the Zoo staffs 1,500 for all their locations — including The Wilds in Muskingum County — 350 of whom are full-time employees.
None of the seasonal positions involve caring for the animals, Wilson said.
“Those jobs are pretty hard to come by,” she said. “You need a lot of education for that. However, if someone is in high school or college, and they’re looking to get into the zookeeper line of work, it’s always great to have that kind of experience, even if it’s working in food or beverage or something like that. It’s always great to have your foot in the door, and that has happened in the past.”
