Parks & Rec offers free Pilates classes

Two free Pilates classes are being offered in July and August by Preservation Parks, as part of the park district’s FLEX (Free Local EXercise) series.

Classes are for anyone ages seven or older, and will be held Saturday, July 25, 1 p.m., at Deer Haven Preserve, 4183 Liberty Road; and Saturday, August 29, 1 p.m., at Shale Hollow Preserve, 6320 Artesian Run.

Although the classes are free, registration is required; those interested should send an email to < register@preservationparks.com >, or call 740-524-8600, ext. 3, at least three days before each class.

Participants should bring an exercise mat, water and workout clothes or other comfortable attire. Athletic shoes are optional.

The classes will be taught by an instructor from Get Fit, a fitness studio located in Delaware. According to GetFit’s website, pilates exercises create a strong core, and work the whole body to create body control, and gain long lean muscles and flexibility.

FLEX is an initiative launched in May by Preservation Parks. It features workout stations along nature trails in two parks, monthly healthy hikes, and occasional exercise programs.
