Delaware Hayes’ girls basketball team coupled a steady opening quarter with a nearly flawless second to parlay a 32-13 halftime advantage into an impressive 51-29 Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division victory in handing visiting Big Walnut its first loss of the season last Friday night in Delaware.

Julie Bauer set the tone for the Pacers, recording a game-leading 24 points in the victory. She also contributed 3 assists and 6 steals, all while shooting the ball extremely well. The senior made 9 of her 11 free throws and 6 of her 8 shots from the field.

Other key performers for Hayes (5-2, 2-2 OCC) included Maranda Merriman, who totaled 9 points and 4 rebounds, and Kristen McMillen, who handed out 5 assists to go with her 7 points.

Skylar Fleak paced Big Walnut (3-1, 1-1 OCC) with 12 points. Leah Shaw backed Fleak with 7 points.
