BW girls close 2013-14 season with wins over Bulldogs, Dragons

Senior Skylar Fleak and junior Makenna Hammond combined for 33 points to lead Big Walnut to last Thursday’s regular-season ending 48-37 victory over the host Bulldogs in Heath.
After closely-contested opening half that saw the Golden Eagles take a 20-18 lead into the half, the Golden Eagles came back out and outscored Heath 15-9 in the third quarter to open up a 8-point, 35-27 advantage. BW secured the victory by winning the final period 13-10.
Fleak and Hammond paced Big Walnut 17 and 16 points, respectively also the Golden Eagles upped their record to 14-8 going into the Division I Central District tournament which opened this week. Big Walnut will open with Zanesville tonight at 7 p.m. on the Lady Devils homecourt in Zanesville.
Heath (3-18) was led by junior Halie Bruck with 13 points and junior Martasha Hinkle with 10 points.
BIG WALNUT 58, HORIZON SCIENCE ACADEMY 15 —The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 27-6 halftime lead and never looked back in last Tuesday’s (February 11) non-conference basketball victory over the visiting Lady Dragons at Big Walnut High School.
Big Walnut (13-8, 6-8 OCC) pitched a shutout in the third period, outscoring Horizon Science (7-12) by a 15-0 margin to take a commanding 42-6 advantage into the final quarter.
Skylar Fleak paced the Golden Eagles with 13 points. Leah Shaw and Hannah Seawell backed Fleak with 8 points apiece. Sara Petty followed with 7 and Cassie Walaszek and Kailey Cagle contributed 6 points apiece.
