The Delaware General Health District (DGHD) car seat check inspection program released its 2014 car seat inspection schedule giving residents plenty of opportunity to ensure their children have the safest ride possible.

In 2013, DGHD car seat technicians inspected 503 car seats and of those 88 percent were installed incorrectly.

The Delaware General Health District provides child restraints free to income eligible Delaware County parents, In 2013, the Health District distributed 158 car seats to eligible children.

To qualify, a parent must:

* Be a Delaware County resident;

* Be the legal guardian of the child;

* Have proof of income eligibility; and

* Attend a child passenger safety class with a Delaware General Health District certified child passenger safety technician.

Although some events do not require an appointment, most of the checks do require contacting the DGDH to schedule an inspection. Appointments can be made online at or by calling 740-368-1700. It is asked that expectant parents please schedule inspections four to eight weeks prior to the birth due date.
