In 2013, Community Library began updating its five-year strategic plan. It’s imperative that our collections, programs and services assist individuals in reaching their personal goals. To that end, with the help of the State Library of Ohio, a community-wide survey was conducted to collect general information on the needs of area residents. The results of the survey were compiled and used to refine our mission and define the key service areas that the library should focus on to help meet the information needs of the community we serve.

The library’s mission is to provide a welcoming environment for all to pursue knowledge and cultivate their interests. To help us fulfill that mission, we will focus on the following three services areas:

  • Satisfy Curiosity: Lifelong Learning

Residents will have the resources they need to explore topics of personal interest, allowing them to learn throughout their lives.

  • Stimulate Imagination: Reading, Viewing and Listening for Pleasure

Residents who want materials to enhance their leisure time will find what they want, when they want them, and will have the help they need to make choices from available options.

  • Visit a Comfortable Place: Physical and Virtual Spaces

Residents will have safe and welcoming physical places to meet and interact with others or to sit quietly and read and will have open and accessible virtual spaces that support networking.

Using aggregated information collected in the survey, the library generated more specific questions related to the three key service areas. Those questions were presented to two focus groups comprised of local citizens, government officials, business owners, and other stakeholders.

Participants were asked to articulate and define how the library could assist them in each area. The information collected was then used by library personnel to shape the goals of the library.

Our goals are to provide the community with:

  • Programs that engage, challenge and inspire.
  • Resources that promote lifelong learning.
  • Convenient access to a wide variety of recreational books, movies and other materials.
  • A variety of spaces appropriate for meeting, studying and interacting with each other.

The updated strategic plan is the result of the collaborative efforts of members of the community we serve, library staff, and the library trustees. Over the next several years our efforts will center on goals outlined in this plan. Objectives have been developed that will help us measure our progress each year. We are excited to begin implementation of the updated plan and hope the community continues to benefit from the programs and services we provide.
