Grace Gillespie, a fourth-grade student at Hylen Souders Elementary School, was recognized as a Big Walnut School Board Student Citizen of the Month for April at last Thursday’s (April 10) Board Meeting. Grace is the daughter of Scott and Deedra Gillespie. She has two older brothers, Caleb who is a student at Big Walnut High School, and Jacob, a student at Big Walnut Intermediate School.
Grace has attended Souders since Kindergarten. Throughout her academic career she has developed a strong lover of reading, yet she does not have a specific book genre … she simply loves them all. Grace also enjoys all subject areas and excels academically. One of her most memorable Souders’ experiences was Art Day with her favorite art being the performing art of Miming.
Souders’ fourth-grade teacher Penny Lacy said Grace is a great student and a joy to have in class.
“Grace is a wonderful student to have in class,” she said. “She is a polite and hard-working student with a positive attitude in the classroom.”
Grace’s third-grade teacher Lisa Andrews congratulated her on being selected as Student of the Month.
“I would like to congratulate Grace on being selected as Student of the Month,” Andrews said. “I was lucky enough to have Grace in my third grade class. She is always happy and extremely helpful to her teacher and the other students in her class. She is a very sweet and hard-working student who always tries to do her best.”
Grace’s extra-curricular interests include cheerleading, dance and being a Girl Scout. When asked something she has learned being a Girl Scout, she shared that her Mom is one of her troop leaders, thus she had learned how to behave.
The staff at Hylen Souders Elementary congratulates Miss Grace on her continued excellence and is quite proud that she is representing their school!.
