Thursday, May 8, 2008 John Barrick Bowmar John Barrick Bowmar, 64, Brackett Drive, Gainesville, Georgia, formerly of Galena, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, at his residence following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 30, 2008 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial following in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Jon Williams of Bible Baptist Church officiated. The family received friends Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Mr. Bowmar was born in Delaware County to the late Quinter Reed Bowmar and Dora M. (Hartley) Bowmar. He was a member of First UMC in Center Village. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Imogene Fletcher. Mr. Bowmar is survived by his wife, Norma (Longshore) Bowmar, Gainesville; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kirn Bowmar; Brian and Jane Bowmar and Chad and Julie Bowmar, all of Gainesville; six grandchildren, Kristopher, Matthew, Ethan, Kyle, Kara and Maggie; one sister, Rhea Bailey, Delaware; brother and sister-in-law, Reed and Nioma Bowmar of Galena; brother, Randy Bowmar of Delaware; a number of nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends also survive.
Thursday, May 8, 2008 Mary E. Salini Mary E. Salini, 92, Centerburg, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Country View of Sunbury. Calling hours and prayer service were held Tuesday (May 6) at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday (May 7) at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Sunbury, with the Reverend David Sizemore Celebrant. Internment followed in St. Joseph Cemetery. Thursday, May 8, 2008 Everett Burns Chambers Everett Burns Chambers, 82, died Sunday (May 4, 2008) surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 29, 1925 in Galena to Lester and Eda (Stout) Chambers. He graduated from Galena High School in 1943. During his teen years, he felt the call to ministry. He received his pastoral training at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Otterbein College and Eastern Baptist Seminary. On Dec. 27, 1952, he married Charline Ann Pacey in Dayton. His first ministry was in Lucky Fork, Ky., where he served as pastor of the Faith Hill Mission church and taught school in a mountain one-room school house reached by horseback. Following his ordination in May 1958, by the American Baptist Churches of U.S.A., he served churches in Jerseyville and Princeton, Ill., Walworth, Wis., Kokomo, Ind., and interims in Ohio. He worked as regional director of development for Judson University for three years. In each community, he took an active part in the local ministerial association, served on local community boards and also on the American Baptist Association and state boards. He belonged to several organizations, including Rotary, Lions Club and the Boy Scouts of America and was active in supporting foreign missions, working onsite teaching and ministering in Haiti, Nicaragua and El Salvador. He had a heart for people, his effort and time in building relationships with those in his church and community was his greatest passion, besides living his life for Christ. He treasured the opportunity to visit the lonely or sick, pray for those in need and love those around him with his gregarious and joyful presence. His broad smile and warm presence was a character trait many came to love throughout his life and ministry. He was also an active gardener and fruit grower and cherished his time tending his vast day lily collection and raspberries. Overall, he had a contagious love of life and this enthusiasm was evident to all those that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Charline; three daughters, Mary Dawn Chambers-Foltman of McHenry, Ill., Kathryn (Daniel) Mager of Columbia Ill., and Marsha (Charles) Walker of Lake In The Hills, Ill.; one son, Timothy (Dacia) Chambers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley (Arthur) Houk of Washington, and Elsie Williams and Mary Dell (David) Nisbet, both of Ohio; and one brother, Eldon Chambers of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Eda Chambers. Friends may visit with the family from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Darien Community Baptist Church in Darien, Wis. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. John Mancusi officiating. Burial will follow at Brick Church Cemetery.
