Two Big Walnut High School Cross Country runners turned in excellent times at last weekend’s Thomas Worthington Invitational.
Freshman Colbi Borland’s time of 18:59.1 was good for 13th place in the 218-runner field. Borland’s time shattered the school record of 19:18.9 set by Lincoln Green when she placed 34th in the 2010 State Championship run at the Scioto Downs XC Course.
Junior Will Hefner led the Big Walnut boys team with a career best time of 17:21.2 to finish 75th out of 215 runners.
This coming Saturday, October 15, both teams will compete in the OCC Cross-Country Championship run at the Newark Evans Athletic Complex. The girls will race at 11 a.m. and the boys at 11:30 a.m.
Borland will attempt to become the first Big Walnut girl to win a conference cross-country championship in school history.
The last BW boy to win a conference meet was Micah Armbrust in 2008. The last (and only) time that Big Walnut won a team OCC cross-country championship was when the girls won in 2001.
