Bishops’ Fowler Voted to Academic All-America Teams

Ohio Wesleyan University senior Sarah Fowler (Mount Vernon/Fredericktown) has been voted to the Academic All-America women’s track & field/cross country teams, it was announced.

Fowler was a second-team Academic All-America selection.

Fowler completed an All-America trifecta during the 2016-17 academic year, finishing in fourth place in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III outdoor track & field championship meet, fourth in the indoor 5000-meter run at the NCAA Division III indoor track & field championship meet, and fifth in last fall’s NCAA Division III cross country championship meet — the best individual finish ever by an Ohio Wesleyan woman at a national championship meet. It marked the second consecutive year that Fowler completed the All-America trifecta — in 2015-16, she placed sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase, eighth in the 5000-meter run, and 24th in cross country. She was named North Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Year in cross country and NCAC Distance Runner of the Year in outdoor track & field. Fowler is an exercise science and psychology major.

The Academic All-America teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. To be considered for the teams, one must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better and be a starter or important reserve.

A total of 73 Ohio Wesleyan University student-athletes were named to the North Coast Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll, it was announced by the NCAC.

To be named to the NCAC Academic Honor Roll, one must be at least a sophomore on an active roster in a sport sponsored by the conference and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher. A total of 690 student-athletes were named to the NCAC Academic Honor Roll.
