BW opens with 3-0 loss to J-M

JOHNSTOWN — Big Walnut High School’s varsity football opener was a narrow 3-0 loss to Johnstown-Monroe on Friday, August 25. The defense was impressive, stopping the Johnnies any number of times, and forced a few turnovers. Top tacklers for BW included defensive back Dante Chhuom, linebacker Eli Myers and DB Jackson Seiple.

There were two missed field goal attempts that went wide left in the first half. As the Big Red marching band was winding down their Bruno Mars-themed halftime show, the field goal unit for the Johnnies came onto the field early and practiced a few kicks. It paid off, because midway through the third quarter, they made a field goal.

On a couple occasions, it seemed like the Eagles would pull off the upset, having the ball in the red zone. However, turnovers, including an interception in the final minute, kept Big Walnut off the scoreboard.

Although it was a non-conference game, there seemed to be as many fans from Sunbury as there was for the home team, and the drumline and student section often drowned out the announcer.
