Have you seen persons on the street with clipboards in their hands? They are citizens who need your signature on a petition to put the issue of how Congressional districts are drawn on the November ballot.
Right now, the lines were drawn by political consultants who met secretly in a hotel room to make sure that the districts favor Democratic or Republican candidates. This eliminated effective competition for a Congressional office.
Example; District 15 is strung out like narrow road from Upper Arlington to Athens! District 9 runs along Lake Erie from Toledo to Cleveland.
Right now, Congressional district boundaries favor candidates of either the Republican or Democrat parties. They do not have to worry about the general election because they know, from the way the district lines are drawn, that most of those voting will be from their political party. They are accountable only to their political party, not to the citizens of their districts.
If enough registered voters sign the petition, the issue will be put on the November ballot. It will call for a bipartisan redistricting commission to be established that will draw the lines to assure genuine competition when candidates run for Congress.
If you care about the way our Congress persons are elected, you will want to sign a petition to put the issue of a fair electoral process on the November ballot.
