Staff Report

Members of the Big Walnut – DACC FFA Chapter Agricultural Sales Career Development Event Team competed in the state contest on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Marysville High School. The team, consisting of Gabby Adair, Austin Cheadle, Caleb Durheim, Ben Kessler and Justin Hill (alternate) earned twelfth place in the state of Ohio. Individually, Adair placed 3rd out of the 80 state finalists in the event.

These students won both the sub-district and district contests to advance to the state level.

For this event, students completed an online test covering sales and marketing topics, participated in an Individual Sales Presentation, and interacted with a judge in a Prospecting for New Customers practicum.

For the Individual Sales Presentation, Big Walnut – DACC students completed a simulated wholesale scenario marketing trees to an ACE Hardware. Students had to introduce themselves, talk about their product, overcome customer objections, and complete the sale within the twelve minute timeframe. For the Prospecting for New Customers practicum, students completed a face-to-face activity with a judge in which they determined whether or not the judge was a potential customer. Students had to ask effective questions to determine customer wants and needs, then select the product they thought would best meet their needs.

The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is composed of 653,359 members belonging to one of 8,568 chapters throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
