Big Walnut’s Adair captures third in national speaking contest

Gabby Adair, member of the Big Walnut – DACC FFA Chapter competed recently in a national public speaking contest on September 14 and 15. The event was held in conjunction with the Eastern States Exposition at the Sheraton Hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Last March, Adair placed second in the Ohio Extemporaneous Public Speaking Career Development Event to qualify for this contest. .

In this event, Adair randomly selected a topic and was given just thirty minutes to write and prepare a four to six minute speech on that topic. Immediately following the thirty-minute preparation period, Adair presented her speech to a panel of judges and responded to five minutes of oral questions from those judges. Adair was assigned the topic of antibiotic resistance in livestock and spoke on what antibiotics are, how antibiotic resistance happens, and the impacts antibiotics can have on the food supply.
