Last Open Skate this Sunday

Skate Club closing

Everyone loves to skate – roller blades or old-fashioned 4-wheel skates, it doesn’t matter. Tell folks there’s a skate party at the Sunbury Skate Club, and they’ll show up. If they don’t skate, they’ll socialize while watching their children and grandchildren roll around the rink.

But the Sunbury Skate Club has sold, and rumor has it that the space will be converted to another entertainment use.

Owner Sharmin McAtee said from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. this Sunday, October 30, would be the final Open Skate at a rink that has been a staple in the Big Walnut community for as long as many folks can remember.

The admission fee will be a modest $2, and as an added treat it will be rink employee Roger Owens’ birthday.

Sunbury Skate Club is located at 345 McGill Street in Sunbury, behind VFW Post 8736.

Stop in, wish Roger a Happy Birthday, and have one last turn around the rink at Sunbury Skate Club.
