Delaware Caregivers Invited to Free Car Seat Check

WHEN: National Car Seat Check Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 from 9 a.m. to noon (No appointments necessary)
WHERE: Delaware AAA store parking lot, 840 Sunbury Rd., Delaware
WHY: Car crashes remain the leading cause of death for children, ages 1 to 13, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In passenger cars, proper use of child safety seats reduce the risk of death by 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers. However, about three quarters of seats are installed incorrectly.
WHAT: To help local caregivers ensure their most precious cargo is safe while riding in the car, certified Child Passenger Safety technicians will perform free car and booster seat checks for caregivers. During each check technicians will teach caregivers how to properly install and use their car seats.
In addition, technicians will check for car seat recalls, review the importance of registering seats with the manufacturer, and educate caregivers on the dangers of loose items and unbuckled passengers in vehicles.
